Mrs. HM started playing Penumbra recently when maternity leave started and I listened in just to check out the voice.

Now the big question that Tom really wants answered: Would you listen to this voice talk about narrative in games in a crowded lecture theatre?Harbour Masterhttp://www.electrondance.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5979339353366878191.post-44272214751188513362010-09-21T09:37:57.616+01:002010-09-21T09:37:57.616+01:00No way!-- that was you voicing Philip? No way!-- that was you voicing Philip?Gregg Bhttp://www.tap-repeatedly.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5979339353366878191.post-13712103019681539602010-09-20T20:04:50.616+01:002010-09-20T20:04:50.616+01:00You may :-)

He was excited about voicing video games, and in 2006 he was volunteering on a number of projects including the Penumbra tech demo. I wasn't involved at the time so I'm not sure who found who, but I kinda inherited him when I took over the voice direction.

We experimented, we worked hard back and forth to get the right voice, and I couldn't be happier with the result we got.

I have fewer compliments for the uncredited British narrative designer who wound up voicing Philip ;-)

Let us know if and when you get the review up.Tom Juberthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14570661671387482872noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5979339353366878191.post-34712528030760398482010-09-20T12:48:54.371+01:002010-09-20T12:48:54.371+01:00I've been itching to read these since you post...I've been itching to read these since you posted them but unfortunately hadn't started Black Plague thanks to the summer sun rudely cutting down the dark hours. But no more. I finally finished it last night and boy was that an experience. I've not really had a chance to reflect on it all but I'll hopefully be penning a review at some point soon.

May I ask how the voice actors were sourced for Overture because Red was remarkable and if the first game really was on a shoestring budget then he was damn good value.

Anyway, fascinating articles Tom and I've no problem with you quoting Plato; that phrase is a belter. ;-)Gregg Bhttp://www.tap-repeatedly.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5979339353366878191.post-82858319986037094712010-07-30T23:39:23.626+01:002010-07-30T23:39:23.626+01:00Took me a long time to come back and read these ar...Took me a long time to come back and read these articles. These words made me remember how unique Penumbra actually was.

As a story-led experience it wasn't 100% successful but I rated it extremely high, and I miss games attempting to go odd or unexpected places with their stories.

After an experience like this, I wonder if you will truly be happy writing for AAA titles, Tom. Then again you seem to be pretty excited about the project you're currently involved with...Harbour Masterhttp://www.electrondance.comnoreply@blogger.com
